Default High CAPE

Something which everyone on this planet should be able to do.

Hi Barry and Iris,

Just got back from a lovely Dartmoor walk in a max of 22.7 deg C (very pleasant
indeed).

High CAPE by itself is certainly not enough. You need moisture in the lower half
of the troposphere and you need a trigger to release the instability. France
often has high CAPE values but the air is often dry so all you get is some high
level cumulus late in the day. It looks like on Tues and Weds some scattered
storms are possible but impossible to pinpoint at this stage as it will depend
on local convergence effects. Also later in the week there is a possibility of a
PV anomaly or upper trough swinging NE from Biscay to trigger something.

HTH a bit I've only had chance for a quick appraisal.

Will.

Being pretty ignorant and new to all this, does a high CAPE on
theWetterzentrale site definitely point towards severe thunderstorms
or does it have to be combined with other factors.

What are the opinions for storms in France in the coming week?

I'd be very interested to know where else to look and what else to
consider.
