Good evening from cloudy Athens.
Members of 'Hellasweather', the greek weather enthusiasts yahoogroup, have
issued a webpage where their weather stations' logs present their data,
after they've automatically been translated in METARs. By visiting
http://www.meteorologia.gr and clicking on 'METARS', one can have a look on
the current weather conditions at 8 stations in Athens, 3 in Thessaloniki
and 2 in the Aegean isles (namely, Paros and Tinos). The next stage of this
effort is to visualise some of the current conditions and publish them on a
map (GIF) that will be readily available both on personal webpages and on
the webpage of the National Observatory of Athens.
http://www.meteothes.gr/greece/ includes more known amateur weather stations
run in Greece
http://users.ntua.gr/jorgalan/Attika-online.html includes all online weather
stations run in Greater Athens
http://www.meteothes.gr/index.html includes all online weather stations run
in Greater Thessaloniki
We hope to include more stations as time goes by and produce readily
available, instantly informative images in the future.
Cloudy in Athens as a low is covering most of the Ionian sea and is slowly
moving northeastwards. Rainfalls and thunderstorms are already reported in
the west, north and northwest of the country, while katabatic winds have
pushed temperatures up to +31C in northern Crete (Irakleion).
All the best,
