Default NATURE-rogue forecasters

tells of RMS intent to monitor and rate independant forecasters.

Just imagine Will Hand and some other heavies from Exeter, dressed in leather
coats, turning up before dawn and hammering on your door asking for your
verifications,

I've being saying this for years. That there should be some kind of
'chartermark' or similar benchmark of quality to indicate a
forecasting organisation has reached a certain standard. They do
it for other professions like builders, so why not weather forecasters?

As it stands anyone can forecast the weather, anyone at all.
The Met Office can do it, Metcheck can do it, even *I* can do it.
Whether anyone can do it to a satisfactory standard however is
another matter entirely

And it's not a frivolous matter either like not taking your brolly to
work and getting wet. What if you rely on a mountain or coastal
forecast that proves incorrect and someone dies?

With the proliferation of internet based forecasts, this hasn't come
a moment too soon.
