Probably the rarest (and incidentally also the prettiest) are colourful
nacreous clouds also called polar stratospheric clouds. They appear at
very high altitude 10-20km as brightly coloured iridescent sculpted
lenticular clouds long after sunset (or before sunrise).
They may be becoming more frequent over the UK if some predictions of GW
effects on the stratosphere are correct. I am interested in reports and
photographs of any sightings.

It is not a long list. Apart from just after Krakatoa 1884-5 the average
is roughly one per decade from the UK mostly in January or February.
Slightly better chance of seeing them from N Scotland.
This year was very good for them over Iceland.
