Default weird cloud movement

During a storm this morning(round 1100am, south of oxford), I noticed that
although the general movement of the clouds were from SW - NE there were an
appriciable number of low small clouds, beneath the main cloud layer,
scudding by in the opposite direction, very fast as well. whats that all
about?
(sorry if thats a silly question, just wondered! )
