During a storm this morning(round 1100am, south of oxford), I noticed that
although the general movement of the clouds were from SW - NE there were
an appriciable number of low small clouds, beneath the main cloud layer,
scudding by in the opposite direction, very fast as well. whats that all
about?
(sorry if thats a silly question, just wondered!
)
Low-level directional shear. This is where wind direction changes with
height. The example you are describing sounds typical of what has been
forecast by many of the models.
