Yannis.
Was Elounda in Crete badly affected with snow last week, as we were on
holiday there last October.
Best regards.

As has already been noted, last week was a very harsh one for most Aegean
isles, with F14 winds, blizzards and two islands and eastern Crete (up to
130 cm of snow in inhabited areas of Lasithi) declaring a state of
emergency. Here are some photographs from the island of Andros (central
Aegean):

A textbook warm front brought much milder air masses from the southwest
and
heavy snowfalls turned to rain in the low lying areas of northern Greece
by
Tuesday afternoon. Thursday brought some very nasty downpours of rain over
much of continental Greece again (max rainfall intensity 197.6 mm/h in SE
Athens), while the low that brought that snow to NW Europe should affect
us
tomorrow with heavy rainfalls turning to snowfalls over much of
continental
regions. The following week could bring some belated halcyon days.
Yannis, SE Athens
clear
190.4 mm in January so far :-)
