I don't know if a record was set here in Devon or not but I recorded 32.1C
at 14:15 this afternoon here in the Exe Valley. I would have to say that
this was under exceptional conditions in a sheltered location.
Currently at 19:15, 28.3C, RH 50%, DP 16.9C, 1030.3 mb (F), Wind calm.

It reached a scorching 28.7 here around 12:45, then a very gentle sea
breeze
set in, and it's now around 27.5. Very strong unbroken sunshine yet again.
Temperatures 28 are very rare here, as we are virtually surrounded by
the
sea. I have recorded temperature = 28 degrees on 8 occasions since 1991
(including today). The previous record was 28.5 on 19th August 1995. I
think
the hot air has moved generally down the spine of the peninsula. I see
that St. Mawgan exceeded 26 degrees, despite on onshore wind all day.
Had a swim this morning around 11:00 when it was completely calm & glassy,
and the top foot or so of the water felt almost warm.
I'm not sure what the temperature record for Penzance is, I seem to
remember
it being around 29.5 in 1976. I think the most westerly point to reach 32
is
St. Mawgan, I suspect Philip will know.
