I would have thought a vacuum pump (to intensify them) would be better if
the media (and my grass) are to be believed.

We need the water!

No, *some* of us do. No low intensification techniques please!

Perhaps a shallow low running up the Channel, giving heavy rain in
southern counties, but the E/NE winds to the north giving pleasant
and sunny conditions up here would keep everybody happy?

The entire North Atlantic setup though seems unusual for this time of the
year with what appears to be the development of a Greenland/Iceland block
like that, especially with the GFS/UKMO models taking it to at least
120/144hrs (acknowledging the model inaccuracies out to that length of
time). A quick check of the:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten/fsreaeur.html

does not show anything quite like it for the notably bad July's in the UK
such as 1993/1988/1974 though. Even the 528 dam line is showing just on the
Northern edge of this chart:

for next Monday.

Interesting times.
