Ladies and gentlemen,
I am pleased to announce that the Davis Vantage Pro AWS at Haytor
meteorological
office is now online at
http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm . It
will not be available 24/7 but will be on for a lot of the time. There are
graphs of temperature, dewpoint, rainfall, and barometric pressure covering a
rolling 24 hour period with observation updated at 10 minute intervals. you
have
to 'refresh' open web pages. Wind information is still at 3m height and mean
speeds will have to be tripled to get an idea of open exposed moorland
conditions. Rainfall normally under-reads by 10% compared to the manual gauge.
Temperatures, dewpoints and sea-level pressure are accurate. Wind chill refers
to 3m agl (which is more sensible in my view as people do not live their lives
10m above the ground). Please add in this link to your web pages if you wish
but
if the data are used for research then an e-mail to
would be appreciated. Commercial and operational use of these data is
permitted
free of charge but only with permission from Will Hand (those already
contacted
by e-mail have permission to use it commercially).
The possibility of a web cam at the site is being investigated and any
recommendations would be appreciated. Monthly summaries of AWS data are under
development and 10 minute archives are in the planning stage.
So now you can watch the rain accumulating on Dartmoor in real-time and in the
winter you will be able to see the snow. Enjoy!
Will Hand
