Not a few comments here going a little too far in supplying answers.

Do people who are regular attenders to a site know more about the local
meteorological variables than the number crunchers at the Met Office?

Interesting comments about bats and balls on though. Suprising that
no-one has made a scientific study.

No doubt as soon as Africa has been reduced to poverty once more there
will be time and money for such things.

Worthy of a cross post no doubt. Except there is no-one on sci-physics
interested in physics. (Post something like this and you may get 5 or
so answers. Several will advise you to Google for help.)
