Did anyone listen to the R4 programme last night (Saturday 2000) "The
Archive Hour: Time Lapse of Dartmoor"? [Still available via the BBC web
site BTW].
At one point, the people whose reminiscences were recorded were relating
tales surrounding what sounded like a major 'Rain Ice' event during the
1947 winter ... but they called it something like 'Ammel', or 'Hammel',
or 'Hemmel'. Not heard this name before and wondered if anyone had come
across it.
Martin.
