Default [OT] Sandstorms for Iraq & Kuwait

"Martin Rowley" wrote in message
...
BAGHDAD, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- A sandstorm swept large parts of
Iraq, including Baghdad, Monday disrupting traffic and forcing
almost total paralysis of daily activities and street life.
The storm reduced visibility to around a quarter mile
increasing the danger of road accidents and exploitation of the poor
weather conditions by terrorists and thieves.

... and in Kuwait, see sudden change from 'CAVOK' to 3500 HZ etc., at
0300Z (latest time at top of stack)

Most interesting but I wonder how useful the NOSIG Trend was to any pilots
approaching the area. Often noted that coutries outside UK (e.g. Spain)
continue NOSIG through thunderstorm events, even when visibility drops from
9999 to below fog limits. Am I mis reading the 'rules' or are Trends any
use to Pilots when in fact they could be totally misleading when they
represent expectation for the next two hours and the Pilot is getting ready
to fianalise his approach ?
