The wind never got particularly strong here, my maximum gust just 33mph,
mind you it wasn't a good day for camping.
The surfing beaches were busy due to the biggest swell of the summer. Up to
6 foot at Sennen, when the lifeguards red flagged the beach. At 7pm you
could sit outside the beach cafe and watch the surfers in just a light wind.
See
www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/sennensurf.html for Wednesday evening
photos. Much too much of a groundswell for me to battle my way in. Also
there was a powerful rip in tthe centre of beach.

I was away for the whole of last week, camping at Whitecliff Bay on the
Isle of Wight, so wasn't able to keep in touch with the weather situation
over the past week. However, I was aware of the impending weather for
Wednesday (as you pay close attention to wind and rain when you are out
camping!).
The weather on Wednesday was atrocious to say the least. We had planned a
day out to the Needles for that day - most of the attractions there were
closed and it was near-on impossible to stand on the clifftops and look
out to sea as the wind was so strong. It rained continuously for the whole
day from around 9am until at least 8pm, quite heavily at times (noticeable
when you are outside the whole time!). --
