That's not the only reason why it won't happen. 1962-3 was colder than
some winters in the past when the Thames had frozen in London, but it
didn't happen then. The embankment of the river meant that its flow was
more vigorous than it used to be. Also before the demolition of the old
London Bridge, its narrow arches used to tend to cause the jamming
together of ice floes, which helped the river ultimately to freeze
solid. Also in 1962-3 power stations pumped a lot of warm water into the
river. This may be less of a factor now that Battersea Power Station has
closed.
