: ...... It's amazing that yet again the
:rain and storms passed up the North Sea coast through east Kent and the
:coastal strip of Essex, which is supposed to be the driest region of the
UK!

Storms were concentrated on the other side of the North Sea in the south of
the Netherlands http://217.160.75.104/wz/pics/Rsfloc3.gif

In and around Tilburg the fire services received more than 400 calls for
assistance after torrential rain in the early hours of the morning. In
Oosterhout the hospital was flooded and the roof of a shop collapsed.
Floodwater was up to 40 cm deep in places and entered some houses. A
number of roads were impassable in Tilburg and in the town of Rijen near the
Belgian border. Lightning strikes started fires in 3 houses.

Above information from Dutch TV teletext.

Gilze-Rijen airbase had 55 mm rain overnight and Rotterdam Airport 32 mm.
An amateur observer at Hendrik Ido Ambacht south of Rotterdam recorded 53.3
mm - much of it between 02.40 and 03.10 local time and accompanied by vivid
lightning and loud thunder.
