My memory lets me down everytime.

I'm finding my computer sometimes flashes into a blue screen (can never
read this) then reboots. I think it maybe a windows or disk error.
The first thing I want to try is Scandisk, which you run from DOS. How do
you get to this point? F8 comes up with Uguru screen etc, F2 seem to not
respond. A noddy guide would be appreciated.

Assuming Windows XP you can change the Windows setting to make it stop on
the blue screen which gives the opportunity at least to see why it halted.
Control Panel/System/Advanced/Start up and Recovery/Settings and remove the
check from Automatically restart. If it subsequently halts you will have to
power off and then on again to restart your machine.
