Default Milder than 2001?

Call me old fashioned but if this winter is harsh it's going to be short and
harsh. I can remember snow and sub-zero air frosts by this time of year in
the "olden days".

Well only one week of October to go and no really cold weather yet.
Could this month end up warmer than 2001?

In these parts (Southampton area) I don't think we've had a day where
the maximum temperature has been below 15C yet - wonder if this is a
first for October? The daytime max has been consistently around 17-18C
since around the autumnal equinox, when there was a sudden end to the
summer-like temperatures which were typical of the earlier parts of
September.
