Good things about the autumn and winter months in southern England
In message .com,
writes
1. In October we occasionally get very warm and sunny days.
2. Spring often comes early in February.
3. Erm....?
Notice the lack of words like "frost", "snow" etc. The winter months
are so drab compared to the 80s when September frosts were common.
Looking at the GFS we'll still be waiting in mid-November....
Nick
My records from Bushey, Herts from 1980 to 1987 show a total of 3 nights
with ground frost in September (lowest grass min -0.8C) and no air frost
at all.
At Chalfont St Giles in 1988 and 1989 there was no air or ground frost
in September.
I don't have records for 1988.
These figure show that in the 1980's in semi-rural areas to NW of London
frost in September was a very rare event.
