Since I've been recording in Carluke, (1993) this year's mean Jan-Oct is
the warmest so far.

Not quite the warmest here. By a fraction 1995, 1997 and 2000 were slightly
warmer at this stage.
Here's the numbers for comparison (1993 was before my time, so not included
;P)
Jan-Oct mean in Wishaw:
1994 8.6
1995 10.1
1996 9.0
1997 10.0
1998 9.6
1999 10.0
2000 10.2
2001 8.9
2002 9.6
2003 9.7
2004 9.8
2005 10.0

Both 1995 (December) and 2000 (November) had a cold month at the end of the
year of course, hence 1997 was the warmest year here (9.43ºC), with 2000
taking second place - but I wouldn't be surprised if it was eclipsed this
year!
An interesting local variation Stuart. I wonder how much it is due to my
meteorological day being midnight to midnight?
Alex.
