It seems the warnings of 70mph hour gusts may have been well off

This evening is very quiet here as well. It has been F5 since about
1400, pressure is steady at a tad over 1000mb.

This morning was another matter F8 from 0700, F9 for goodly chunks of
the morning, gusting to the mid 50's mph no trouble. Biggest gust was
62mph but that was the only one above 60.

I went to bed clutching a torch and with dentures firmly attached
and we had the quietest night for three weeks.

B-) But I can appreciate it. When it starts to get blowy at night I
find a torch and put in my pocket. If the power goes here it goes
dark, very very dark. A torch lives on the bedside table as a matter
of course. I won't mention how much out 4' sq windows flex under the
pressure from F8/F9 winds, now that *does* worry me.
