Good morning, everyone.
I was in the Low Countries and Germany from Nov 15-24th, so I missed all
the fun the weather offered here, in Greece, during this spell (and
dutch snowfalls in the last 2 days, so you'd better hope I won't be
visiting the UK soon ;-) ). Some of the weather highlights in Greece
while I was away:
- rain and thunder over much of the country on Nov 16-17th. My site was
wettest around Athens with 71.0 mm of rain, which fell practically in
5-6 hours.
- rain turns to snow before noon on Nov 18th. Snow covers all western
Macedonia and parts of hilly grounds in the rest of Macedonia, Thessaly
and central Greece by night. Snow flurries in parts of Athens on Nov
21st, when temperatures drop down to -9C in the NW of the country
(Florina). Snowfalls reported down to sea level in the north.
- temperatures drop to -1 in NE Athens on Nov 21st. Snow still covering
the whole of western Macedonia and much of northern Greece, as well as
the western Thessaly plains down to 200 m amsl:

(map underestimating snowfalls on eastern continental mountainous areas).
- Massive rainfalls throughout most of the country on Nov 22-25th.
Dionysos, in NE Athens, reports over 160 mm in one day. It was
essentially 4-5 days of rain that raised the monthly total to over 200
mm in parts of Athens. A woman reported dead in the S Peloponnese when
she was carried away by an overflooded stream. Pictures from the SW of
the peninsula:

- This storm reaches western Macedonia by giving snowfalls. 40 cm of
snow accumulate overnight in Florina (figures unknown for mountainous
areas), before the phenomena stop:

- Snow turns to rain on Thursday even in western Macedonia. After two
days with occasional rainfalls, snow still lies on the ground. Panorama

5 of all greek ski centres opened yesterday. Monthly rain total for my
site in Athens now lies at 234.6 mm and it's raining lightly.
All the best for more rain and snow,
Yannis, SE Athens, expecting a relatively mild week
a very mild +16.2C, RH 95%, SLP 1011.8 hPa
