New high temperature records in Crete

Parts of Crete saw their December maximum temperature records smashed on
Friday, when influx of warm air from the south, coupled with a local
Foehn effect, resulted in temperature readings up to +29.4C outside the
town of Chania. Further east, Irakleio experienced an extremely mild
night with temperatures no lower than +21.2C! On the other hand, the
northwest of the country was reporting rather mild -but not so
unseasonal- maxima of around +14C.

Perhaps this is a sign that the pattern of the last few years has
indeed changed - record warmth instead of snow in Athens as of the last
couple of years!
