Default Storm chasers, come to Banffshire!

Apparently the coast here is a hot-spot for "exhilarating" storms:

Aye, well, nice try.

As the former heid bummer of Moray Tourist Board, I think this needs very
careful handling - certainly more care than is evidenced by the item in the
BBC news item.

Having lived in Wester Ross and Moray, there are fewer really stormy days
here (Moray Firth) than there (west coast). When it is stormy, it's
spectacular, possibly because the storms tend to arrive from the north-east,
unimpeded by offshore islands etc. But such storms don't happen every day,
even in midwinter.

And if it's thunderstorms, specifically, that they are trying to promote, we
get far fewer than 'doon sooth' - the further north and west you go, the
lower the average number of times thunder is heard per annum. We hear it
maybe three times a year here.

If they are to succeed with this, they have to make sure they emphasise
**winter** storms and gales, because if Joe Public gets it into his head
that Banffshire is a wild and stormy place (with which I don't agree BTW)
they can kiss goodbye to summer tourism.
