I heard on BBC Breakfast TV this morning that some newspaper(s) were

Surely not any respectable weather forecasting organisation?
Martin (Incredulous once again at the stupidity of the press and/or
quack forecasting organisations).
This is the "what they get we get 5 days later". I've heard people at
work quote this and saying it must be coming our way!
This is because back in the 1960s (at least), there were several
occasions when precisely that situation did occur, I can remember it
clearly. Cold spells that is, not necessarily snowfalls. I did start
to think (way back then) that this may be a permanent indicator of
severely cold weather to come but clearly, it was not.
This may (back then) have been something to do with the long wave
patterns or whatever... but I haven't seen it occur in recent years,
except perhaps on an isolated occasion.
