I remember being seriously distracted a few years ago by
lightning visible through the window during a pub jazz gig (I wasn't
playing), and went outside for a few minutes to look at it. People
thought I was a bit mad but I should have put on one of my other hats
and told them there was a life outside jazz. I remember being peppered
round the ears with small hail watching Fulham in (probably) 1962.
