Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Monday. Issued 0545,
23 Feb 06.

The models show cold weather persisting throughout the first half of next
week, with a strong Greenland High bringing winds from the north or NW. The
emphasis for wintry showers should switch from the south and east to the
north and west as a result, although disturbances in the flow could bring
precipitation almost anywhere.

Northerlies cover the UK due to a large high to the NW. The winds become
NW'lies and NNW'lies at T+144 as a trough sinks southwards over the UK,
followed by NW'lies for all at T+168.

The UK lies under NW'lies in the main, with a ridge over England and Wales
and a trough over Scotland. Winds veer NNW'ly at T+144 as the ridge moves
away to the south.

A large high lies to the NW with a ridge over England and Wales leading to
NW'lies and WNW'lies there. Elsewhere winds are NNW'lies with a small low
over Shetland. The low deepens and moves southwards at T+144, lying over the
Thames Estuary. Winds are northerlies and NNE'lies, followed by NNW'lies and
NW'lies at T+168 as the low fills over the North Sea.

The Canadian run also shows a mixture of NW'lies and northerlies over the
UK as the result of a ridge across England and Wales. By T+144 NNW'lies
cover the whole of the UK as a low deepens to the east.

The German run is similar to the rest, although this time more of the UK
lies under northerlies. The Greenland High ridges southwards at T+144,
leading to further northerlies.

NW.
