Default Are there pockets where storm activity occurs less?

Hello,

I live in Michigan, in the Macomb county area. More specifically in
case anyone is familiar with the area, in zip code 48066, off of 10 and
a half mile and Gratiot.
Over the past few years, I have noticed an interesting pattern. For
some reason, whenever major storms roll through the area, they seem to
miss us 99% of the time. I actually don't remember the last time we
have had more than a few minutes of moderately heavy rain, wind and far
off rumbles of thunder.
Yesterday was a good case in point. We had some pretty major storm
activity in the afternoon. When I spoke with friends who live only a
few miles away, in the Warren and Sterling heights areas, they informed
me that streets in their area had been flooded, and that they had
experienced high winds and hail. Here, we got light to moderate rain, a
bit of wind and one extremely impressive clap of thunder.
For a time, I just chalked it up to coincidence, but now I'm starting to
wonder whether there is actually something going on with the local
weather patterns? Mind you, I'm not complaining, though I do enjoy a
good storm every now and then.

Thanks,

--Al
