Default What was the actual hurricane damage in New Orleans ?

There doesn't appear to

have been all that much wind damage to the city from the storm, though
there certainly was some.
Thanks Bob H.
Thats what I was wondering,
And yes I can understand how the west side of the hurricane pushed all
that water over and broke the levee's.
On Monday, all I ever saw was I think a brick wall down and the
Hyatt with all the windows blown out. And they were all saying that the
streets were already dry,
So thats why I was wondering what the damage was Before the levee's
broke.
Thanks
Craig

Air views of NO suggest that wind damage was not anywhere as serious as
along the E side of the eyewall, which raked MS and AL terribly. The forward
speed of the storm was something like 15 mph, yielding approx. 145-155mph
steady winds on the MS side, and perhaps 115 - 125 on the NO side, just due
to the acceleration effect of the northward movement on the NE quadrant of
the hurricane. The exact wind speeds may not be known with any accuracy,
outside of radar measurements, what with the immediate power outages and
severe winds acting on the anemometers, etc. I note all the windows knocked
out of the big downtown hotels in NO, are north facing - just what you would
expect.
