This season has to me so far been very strange, but it is also the first
leaf season that I have really been paying close attention to the
details.

First, it has been extraordinarily late; usually by now here 75% of the
leaves are on the ground, and right now I am still almost 50% green.

There seems to be more color in the mountain valleys than on the
mountains themselves. There are some nice pockets around here but the
color overall isn't that impressive. It's still much better than last
year though -- we basically had no foliage last year, it all just dried
up and fell off.

Yet on Tuesday I went up to the Stratton area and they are far from
peak, and in Bennington it still looks almost like August.
