Default Windy days at the beach

Stephen Stein wrote in message ...
I have been fortunate to have spent quite a few days on the beach this last
month. The weather has been quite enjoyable, but I came upon a bit of a
puzzle.

As the afternoon progressed, it usually became windier, sometimes very
windy, and I often wanted some way to quantify approximately how windy it
became.

What would you do to measure the wind speed, even approximately, using
common beach-going items?

- Steve Stein

If a gull defecates 20 feet directly above you and the product splats
two feet away, that's all of 10 knots. There are other items such as
swimwear but that's getting lecherous.
