Interesting, but I don't think the physics works out (assuming no drag, a
spherical cow, etc., etc.). Say the gull (or pelican, in this case - I was
in SC) was 16 feet up, so it takes 1 second for something to fall to the
sand. If the wind's blowing 10 kts it'll fall 16 feet away. Which doesn't
sound right.

Maybe you've got experimental results?

There are other items such as swimwear but that's getting lecherous.


You mean if the wind's blowing hard, people wear more of it?

I like the Beaufort scale best.
