My favorite winter storm was a little 2-3" snowfall we had in Boston in
December 1971. It was my first year in college, and my new friend from
Houston had never seen snow before! We all had fun pelting him with
snowballs.

Then there are the "memorable" storms, which were not necessarily
"favorites"

- a big storm in NY/NJ in the late 60s. It took my father 24 hours for a
one hour commute from NYC back to central NJ. (Anyone got a date on that
storm? Raymond?)

- the blizzard of '78. I was living in an 8-person house, and we had 4
guests for the weekend before the (Monday) storm. (We also had about a foot
and a half on the ground.) We got about 4 feet in Newton Center, MA and no
traffic moved if it wasn't 4-wheel drive. The liquor store in the center
was open, but quickly depleted by lively cross-country ski traffic from
Boston College. The road wasn't plowed 'til Saturday.

One of the people in the house had a clerk job on the docks in South Boston.
The ocean had flooded a whole dock-full of new cars and then froze. I think
they sold most of the cars anyway.
