Default Book Talk: RA Scotti reads SUDDEN SEA: THE GREAT HURRICANE OF 1938 at South Street Seaport Museum (NYC)

Friday, September 5, 2003
7-9 p.m.
Melville Gallery at South Street Seaport
213 Water Street (between Beekman and Fulton)
Book Talk: R.A. SCOTTI presents SUDDEN SEA
Traveling at record speeds, the Great Hurricane of 1938 raced up the
Atlantic Coast, reaching New York and New England ahead of warnings
and striking with such ferocity that seismographs in Alaska picked up
the impact. Winds, clocked at 186 mph, stripped cars of their paint.
Walls of water 50 feet high swept homes and entire families out to
sea. Drawing upon newspaper accounts, the personal testimony of
survivors, and archival footage, R.A. Scotti recounts events from that
terrifying day. Book signing. Wine and refreshments. Admission is
free ($3.00 suggested donation). For more information contact
or 212.748.8735.
