Are you referring to Thunderbird? I am not aware of any
"synchronization" facility in IE, only in Outlook Express. If it is the
mail reader (Thunderbird) that appears to be lacking that facility it
may be because it works differently to OE.

When you open your newsgroup section in TB, headers are automatically
scanned for unread messages. Everything else is handled under View\Sort
By, View\messages, and View\Threads. There is a lot in there and it
takes a while to experiment to find what suits you best (well, it did
with me). For me, it needed a different way of working with a reader but
I would never go back to OE "synchronization" now.
