Farmers flock to fight the locusts
Thursday, 26 August 2004
More than 100 Wellington landholders were urged to become
"nymphomaniacs" and kill as many nymphs as they could to contain the
expected plague locust outbreak.
Landholders from all over the shire arrived in droves for the plague
locust information session at the showground conducted by Rural Lands
Protection Board's local ranger Lisa Thomas and "locust guru" Acting
Ariculture Protection Officer for the area Edward Joshua.
Ms Thomas said locust activity should be reported as soon as possible.
"We need a complete picture of what we are dealing with," she said.
