I would not argue for ASOS's termination.
Certainly, ASOS has done great deeds as far as extending our
observations to new locations and extending the coverage time at
stations that are only partially staffed. Its not perfect, but its
helped alot.
My issue is with these partially staffed stations that "say" they
augment but really don't. In this case, the observations can lie to the
user, because they don't display sensor alarms when they are
'supposedly' being augmented, whether they are REALLY being augmented
or not.
In fact, I would favor the observations always displaying AUTO unless
the observer manually changes something in the observation.
