Default how works the thermal exchange between both hemispheres ?

Hi,
Does anyone have an idea, links, etc. explaining how the thermal exchange
works between both hemispheres ?
Is it a kind of pumping effect when the thermal equator moves from one
tropic to another ?
How fast is the balance reached ?
I mean, is there a possibility that both hemispheres do not evolve
simultaneously ? Obviously they are always in opposition, but one would
expect one northern summer to be as hot as the next southern summer, and
likewise for winters. Since the southern part is more water and the northern
part more land, one would also expect it to behave differently. Especially
when thermal balance is evolving.
Thanks
