I'm not sure how localised the rain was last night - but it was raining
cats and dogs for hours at Romford Stadium dog track last night. The
sand track resembled a quagmire at times and one poor greyhound in the
first race broke its hind leg. Whether this was anything to do with the
conditions is not known.
On waking up near West Horndon this morning I was struck by how much
less it seemed to have rained. Was the heavy rain in Romford very
localised?
Incidentally due to the weather many (though not all) races were won by
dogs in the outside "5" and "6" traps -
8.2mm for me at Southend-on-Sea (0.32").
Monthly total now stands at 61.0mm (2.40") 146% 1970-2000 average.
6th wettest may since 1977.
Wettest May 2000 100.2mm
