Lightning bolts and flash floods! (cut and pasted fron news shopper
www.newsshopper.co.uk)

FLASH floods brought two towns to a halt and one unlucky home owner
lost part of her roof after a lightning strike.

As streets in Dartford and Gravesham were turned into flowing rivers,
Dartford firefighters were called to the home in Fleet Avenue after
flames were seen coming from a loft extension.

The fire, which began at 3.30pm, spread across the converted bedroom
and caused damage to a mattress and clothing.

A Dartford Fire Safety Office spokesman said: "The resident did not
realise her house had been hit or was on fire until she was told by
neighbours. She has a smoke alarm but had taken the battery out."

Rain pounded the pavements for more than an hour and the Met Office
says more than a month's worth of rain, almost 54mm, fell on June 13.

Milton Road, Swanscombe, and Station Road, Longfield, were also hit by
severe flooding, with water one foot high.
