Default Update on Greek weather

Good afternoon, everyone.

After 38C was reached in parts of Greece towards the end of last week
(+36.4C at this site), a very well organised middle level low brought
some very severe thunderstorms over parts of -mainly- central Macedonia,
Thessaly and eastern continental Greece. Athens saw its thunderstorm as
well on Sunday, which was much more vivid towards the west of the city.

The northerlies that were established thereafter -and are still blowing-
have brought a remarkable drop in temperatures. Yesterday's tmax of just
+24.8C smashed the previous local July record (which was +27.6C;
records since 1995), while suburbs of Thessaloniki remained well below
+20C throughout Tuesday. Fresh snow was added to the existing ice masses
on the high grounds of Mt Olympus.

Transports by sea have been brought to a halt today because of the high
winds over the seas, but it's generally much brighter and we're slowly
returning to summer again.
