Default Met Office has some funny idea on how to stay cool

I always keep mine shut (at least on the side of the house which catches the
sun), and the curtains drawn.

Most of the radiated heat is reflected, and heated air outside the window
(from the brickwork) doesn't find its way through the window.

A fan to keep the air moving in the room, and it's quite bearable.

Windows are opened on the shady side of the house, and all the windows
opened at night (out of burglars' reach, that is...).

From the Met Office advice page, "Keep your home as cool as possible —
shutting windows during the day may help. "

Now, I don't know about you lot, but for me shutting the windows on a
bloody hot day like today is the LAST thing I would consider to keep my
house cool with!!
