Currently some nice storms moving out of france and channel towards south
and south east england... Look towards that direction already big
cumulus clouds exploding..
I got some nice video footage of some intense lightning over Horsham at
around 4am. Calmed down for a bit then more storms mid morning. Sods law
says it coincides with me taking my bicycle for a service so I get soaked
in the half hour walk back from town.

Adam,
I was beginning to wonder whether anyone was going to mention
the tremendous light show last night. It comes as some relief that
it was witnessed by someone else (even if you are in West Sussex,
so perhaps not the same batch).
At the rate of almost 1 flash per second for quite some time, akin
to some media photo shoot, it was certainly the most frequent
lightning I've seen in this area since the night of 1st/2nd June 1999,
the last time I've reported a heavy thunderstorm. Today's effort
was nothing in comparison, not even moderate here.
Apart from a couple of spindly looking forks playing near the base of
the high Ac castellanus cloud last night, all of the lightning was within
the cloud ('sheet'). Totally devoid of CG strikes, this display was
quite safe to view from outdoors.
Cheers,
Nigel (Romsey, Hampshire)
