Default Storm in Cambs/Beds

Ben Hardy wrote:
Fantastic storm on the Beds/Cambs border tonite (26/7/6) between approx
9pm to 9.40pm. Incredible downpour and lightning every few seconds. Many
roads flooded. Beautiful relief from the heat. Unfortunately humidity
now seems higher than before.

Ominous storm clouds appearing at 8:30ish. Beautiful/strange orange
light as storm clouds hid the setting sun. Initially many deep thunder
booms and much cloud to cloud lightning. Eventually the downpour began.
I got wet through running 15 yards to my car. Followed the storm from
Gamlingay east towards Cambridge - fast wipe on windscreen wipers but
very difficult to see/drive - many roads waterlogged. Lightning every 10
seconds or so, mainly from the St. Neots direction but cloud to ground
bolts all around me at Gransden. Eventually had to stop as
driving/visibility was nigh impossible. No hail but rain so hard that
droplets merged into sheets of water. Hardest rain I've ever seen -
incredible!
