This could be evaluated in a measurement of "extremity" of a calendar
year: the mean maximum of the hottest month (probably July this year)
and the mean maximum of the coldest month (February this year).

Why not just the mean temperature of these months?

For comparison, he

Mean max: July 22.9 - Feb 5.9 = 17.0

Mean: July 17.6 - Feb 2.9 = 14.7
