Default Slit Jet Stream Tuesday 8th Aug

On Tuesday, with the Azores High building in from the West, and a
Scandinavian High in place, which path will the Jet Stream take?

1. Will it take a path between the two, with a weaker breakaway flow
also going around the top of the Scandinavian high, and both meeting up
again in Russia? If so, no major heatwave.

2. Or will the major flow go around the top of the Scandinavian High,
leaving a weaker flow down the North Sea to get cut-off and die. If
so, a major heatwave is on.

I think it will settle down, with the High nudging in a bit further and
linking up with the Scandinavian High around the 9th/10th, although the
current runs have a slight delay with this not happening until around
the 13-15th.

I have more than once compared this Summer to that of 1983, and if you
compare today 500 hpa http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn001.png
with that of the same day in 1983
http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive...0119830802.gif and
role those charts foward, what to you get, a heatwave.

Also, the last few days of 1983 had a cooler period with a thundery
breakdown, after previously setting the hottest month on record.
