Default Today's model interpretation (9/08/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Sunday. Issued 0541z,
9 August 2006.

As with the past few days the outlook is for cool temperatures and
northerlies. The models still show considerable differences regarding
troughs and the low to the east, but it looks like most areas of the UK will
see some rain as fronts move down from the north.

ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif
A large high lies to the west, with a ridge over Scotland and Northern
Ireland. Winds are northerlies as a result, followed by NW'lies at T+144.
Low pressure deepens over southern Scandinavia at T+168, with a trough
moving southwards over Scotland. Winds there are NW'lies, with WNW'lies
elsewhere.

MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif
The Met Office run shows a shallow trough over Scotland and a weak ridge
over England and Wales. Winds are WSW'lies for Scotland and Northern Ireland
as a result, with WNW'lies elsewhere. The trough deepens over Scotland at
T+144, leading to a mixture of northerlies, NW'lies and westerlies for the
UK.

GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm
NW'lies cover much of the UK due to a low over the North Sea and high
pressure over the mid-Atlantic. A secondary low lies to the NW and by T+144
it deepens and zips SSE'wards, over Ireland. Winds are light over England
and Wales as a result, with easterlies for Northern Ireland and a mix of
easterlies and NE'lies for Scotland. A col covers much of the UK at T+168.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
Northerlies cover the UK, with low pressure to the east and high pressure to
the west.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run lows to the east and west, with NW'lies for much of England
and Wales. Elsewhere winds are much lighter.

NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif
NOGAPS brings a trough over the UK with light winds for most.
