For the second day in succession, I simply do not believe the Solent
MRSC maximum temperature. Mine (5 miles inland from there) was 21.9
deg C. Highest half hourly METAR at Southampton A/P was 21 deg C.
Thorney was 23.2 max; Bournemouth 23.4. This is subjectively
confirmed by my daughter who lives in Lee-on-the-Solent - she said
the afternoon temperatures simply did not at any time feel like 24 to
25 degrees C (out of the sun).

I've said it before and I'll keep on saying it, the exposure at Solent
MRSC is all wrong - it's basically a South/SW facing front garden
which is at times a sun trap, with an adjacent seafront road.

It's a poor show that the Met Office haven't found and set up a more
representative site for SYNOPs in the Solent area. To make it worse,
it doesn't even report rainfall totals.

I take Philip's point about soil type, made in a post some time ago -
but that's only half the story. Grrrr.
