This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the
privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may
unfold next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility whatsoever
for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the spirit of

Summary valid for Sunday 20/08/06 to Saturday 26/08/06
TOI (time of issue) Friday 18/08/06 2100 UK local time

This summary is based on a quick appraisal of the GFS, JMA, ECMWF, UKMO, FAX,
and ENS (NCEP ensemble) labelled charts available from the superb
http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten

Confidence in this forecast is moderate.

Sunday and Monday look like being unsettled with further rain and showers in all
areas, but mostly in the north and east. Temperatures close to normal (13C-18C
in the north and 15C-21C in the south) with moderate or fresh west to northwest
winds.

On Tuesday it should turn mainly dry from the SW with sunny spells and a bit
warmer as winds turn lighter. The fresh north-northwesterly wind could hang on
though in NE England and E Scotland bringing further showers.

On Wednesday a band of rain will move east across all areas, most rain in the
north and west where it could be heavy. Turning windy for a time in the north.
Temperatures similar to Monday.

Thursday should be a mainly dry and warm day with sunny spells and light winds
as pressure builds again from the SW. Temperatures ranging from around 18-21C in
Scotland to 22-25C in southern England.

On Friday and Saturday England and Wales look like staying dry and rather warm
with sunny spells and light winds, however, in Scotland and Northern Ireland the
west or southwest wind should freshen as Atlantic fronts spread rain eastwards.

Prospects for holidaymakers in the SW of England:

Sunday and Monday look like being changeable and rather cloudy with some rain at
times and moderate to fresh northwesterly winds. Some sunny intervals lifting
temperatures to around 20C but nearer 17C over the moors.

On Tuesday the winds should ease off and it will turn much brighter and warmer
with sunny spells and light winds.

On Wednesday a band of mainly light rain will move east across the region. The
rain possibly clearing up later in the day. Temperatures 17C-20C but perhaps
only reaching 15C over the moors with low cloud and hill fog.

The rest of the week then turns mainly dry and warmer with sunny periods.
Temperatures climbing to 21C-24C (19C-21C over the moors) in this period with
sea breezes.
