Disappointing August vs June/July
Don't know what's happened to the suggestions of fine, warm weather
later in the week, it now doesn't seem to be arriving until Sunday
though the Met Office (if maybe not the GFS) is suggesting one good day
this week, on Thursday.
There seems to be a significant risk that this month will be all of
cloudier, cooler and wetter than average, particularly the further
north and east you go. I'm wondering if the lack of continuity in the
fine spell is linked to differences in the upper air pattern in July,
the "good" (subjective I know) weather this year being more down to a
persistent southerly setup than an anticyclonic one.... and whether all
those years where the fine weather continued throughout August
(1947/49/55/59/75/76/83/84/89/90/95) had a stronger upper high, which
perpetuated the fine spell for a longer period.
